TOMKINS MOTORSPORT

THE HISTORY

“Where it all Began”

Tomkins Motorsport started with Eric Tomkins back in the early 60’s. Sporting the number R2, he successfully built and raced his Formula 500 around the Rockhampton and regional speedway’s for the next 16 years, stamping his authority with numerous race wins and podiums.

Fast forward a few years and both of his sons were picking up right where he left off. With Glynn and Michael in their early 20’s and already having multiple motorsport disciplines under their belts, they found their place on the dirt oval, right where their father, Eric had such great success.

“The Second Generation”

With Michael behind the wheel, Glynn as Crew Chief, and a raft of supporters behind them they were a force to be reckoned with when it came to speedway. After “doing their time” with success in the Modified Production class in a Ford Escort built from the ground up, they quickly moved up the ranks into the number Q2 Super Sedan, where they would race at the competitive end of the field for the next 10 years.

After a long stint in the drivers seat, Michael elected to step away from the sport which saw Glynn take the wheel in the AMCA National class where he has raced on and off since 2014.

The start of this era would also see a great friendship between race mate rivals. Glynn Tomkins and Glenn Boulter started out racing rally cars together, moving onto karts and then both stepping into the AMCA series at the same time. Coming away with numerous wins and podiums, they also had their fair share of panel rubbing which led to nothing less than spectacular entrainment for the crowd.

Enter – “The Next Gen”

The 2018/19 season is fast approaching and the team has introduced some young blood to the ranks! Glynn’s two sons, Nathan and Rhys are ready to take on the dirt oval journey the same way their predecessors have. With Glynn still behind the wheel of the Q2 car he will share some of the driving responsibility with Rhys while Nathan takes on the Q3 car full-time this year.

The “Next Gen’s” commitment and determination is nothing short of mind blowing! Just thinking about how eager and excited this pair are will make your head spin!

Under the watchful eye and guidance of the motorsport veterans, Glynn Tomkins and Glenn Boulter there is no doubt that the pair will be battling it out between themselves for the top step and that ever so sweet chequered flag victory lap!
