Nathan Tomkins, like many young race car drivers has a passion to succeed and to win! With motorsport running through his blood as a third generation Tomkins he is committed to making a name for himself now, more than ever!

Being around speedway tracks from as young as 3 weeks old, he has grown up watching his Uncle and Father progress through the ranks. Nathan’s motorsport career started at a young age on two wheels racing moto-x. Once old enough, he naturally progressed to racing Karts where he excelled, coming away with a podium at a QLD restricted state title and numerous race wins at various tracks over QLD and interstate in his first year of racing.

After a brief stint away from racing he is back and more eager than ever!

FAVOUTITE MOTTO Take care of the small things and the big things aren’t that big!

My motorsport career started at a the young age of 18 in a Ford Escort that I used to compete in the local rally scene with. After doing that for some years I found myself giving bitumen racing a go, stepping into karts. With a few race wins up my sleeve racing Karts at a regional, State and National level, I decided to hang the boots up and focus on assisting my brother Michael, as the Crew Chief to his Modified Production Ford Escort speedway car.

This saw the start of a lengthy spell away from being in the drivers seat as the early generation “Tomkins Motorsport” team took to the grand stage in speedway, moving up into the Super Sedan class. From here we travelled Australia successfully racing this class with many fond memories of both the highs and the lows of the dirt oval! During these years, I put my motor mechanic skills to use and kept my love for race cars going by working with numerous V8 Supercar and Endurance Class teams.

After my brother stepped away from the sport, I couldn’t stay away! I dusted the helmet off and jumped straight into an AMCA! I have been racing this class for a couple of years now and I’m having the time of my life! With both of my sons, Nathan and Rhys eager to get behind the wheel I am looking forward to continuing the Tomkins Motorsport name and being able to share that the experience with them for years to come!

FAVOUTITE MOTTO It’s a Cressida… not a Camry

At the young age of 5, my first taste of a competitive sport was racing BMX. I did this for a number of years. Naturally, sport without an engine in our family doesn’t last very long. I soon shifted my focus to racing Moto-X alongside my brother Nathan, where we travelled around competing together. Due to taking on an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic, I took a step away from racing dirt bikes and spent most of my time is the shed with Dad helping him out with various race cars.

With my motorsport career just beginning, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be given the opportunity to step inside an AMCA, sharing the car and learning from my Dad. I am confident that the knowledge within the team and the ongoing assistance from our supporters will have me challenging for the lead in no time at all!

FAVOUTITE MOTTO By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail!

As a first year automotive apprentice, I purchased a $500 Datsun 1600 to commence my motorsport life. I built this car as best as possible on an apprentice wage to compete in the Queensland regional rally scene.

After several years competing in Rallies, Rally Sprints and Khanacross events, I changed my focus and started in the Go-Kart arena. Little did I know how addicted I would become, competing at local, State and National levels. 18 years flew by and I decided a change in direction was needed – speedway was my new challenge. The AMCA National class was the category of choice and now, 10 years on I have decided to step away from driving and support a younger driver in his quest.

I am currently preparing an AMCA National Panther chassis for Nathan Tomkins. I am sure with the experience his father Glynn and I have gained in this class and Nathan’s competitive nature it won’t be long before he carries the chequered flag on a victory lap.
